Machinery and other electrically driven systems manufactured for export must be tested to comply with quality specifications, simulating performance at the end-user’s power voltage and frequency, typically 50 Hertz and 380-volt range.
Industrial equipment exported from North America, whether rated at 60 Hz or 50 Hz, needs to be tested prior to shipping. This can be problematic for 60 Hz electrically derived systems driving loads expected to operate in a power grid operating at 50 Hz, such as in Europe and Asia. In the interest of testing products prior to export, frequency conversion systems provide the flexibility for conversion from 60 to 50 Hz, and vice versa.
